'Gébler's pellucid prose style is the perfect instrument with which to probe a reader's heart.' Will Self Carlo Gébler was born in Dublin in 1954. He graduated in English and related literature at the University of York, and has also studied at the National Film and Television School. He is married with five children, and now lives in Northern Ireland. Aside from his extensive literary and critical activities and his film work he has numerous directorial credits to his name Gébler has worked as a television critic, a columnist and has taught creative writing. He was the writer-in-residence at HMP Maghaberry for 1997-98, and was elected to the Irish equivalent of the French Academy, Aosdána, in 1990.
